ESSAY CONTEST: Memory Politics in Canada and Europe

TOPIC/SUBJECT

How does the commemoration of the past shape current political realities? How has history been mobilized in contemporary debates over how to commemorate past injustices?

​

AWARD

The winner will receive a monetary award of $500 and will be invited to the October 21-23 2022 conference “Commemorating the Past – Shaping the Future” at the University of Victoria (travel & accommodation will be covered)

The best essay(s) will also be published on various online platforms.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Quality of argument made to current debates on memory politics; demonstrating innovative ideas and critical thinking.

​

ELIGIBILITY – A candidate must be:

  • A masters student / doctoral student / post-doctoral researcher / emerging scholar (within 5 years of graduation)

  • Currently enrolled in and affiliated with a university or college in Canada

​

APLICATION PROCESS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Contributions should be sent directly to info@eucanet.org by October 7th, 2022.

  • The submission should include an essay of 2000-3000 words addressing the questions listed above (under ‘TOPIC/SUBJECT’), a summary of 450 words and a short CV

  • The submission will be acknowledged by email, and a decision communicated by October 15th

  • The award will be conferred during the October 2022 conference at the University of Victoria

Comment la commémoration du passé influence-t-elle les réalités politiques actuelles ? Comment l’histoire a-t-elle été mobilisée dans les débats contemporains sur la façon de commémorer les injustices du passé ?


PRIX
Le/la lauréat.e recevra un prix en argent de 500 $ et sera invité.e à la conférence du 21 au 23 octobre 2022 “Commemorating the Past – Shaping the Future” à l’Université de Victoria (le voyage et l’hébergement seront couverts).


Le(s) meilleur(s) essai(s) sera(ont) également publié(s) sur diverses plateformes en ligne.


CRITÈRES DE SÉLECTION
Qualité de l’argumentation apportée aux débats actuels sur la politique de mémoire ; démonstration d’idées novatrices et d’un esprit critique.


ÉLIGIBILITÉ - Un.e candidat.e doit être :
Étudiant.e en maîtrise/ doctorant.e / chercheur.euse post-doctoral / chercheur.euse émergent.e (dans les 5 ans suivant l’obtention du diplôme).
être actuellement inscrit.e et affilié.e à une université ou un collège au Canada.


PROCESSUS DE CANDIDATURE/EXIGENCES
Les contributions doivent être envoyées directement à info@eucanet.org avant le 7 octobre 2022.
La soumission doit inclure un essai de 2000-3000 mots répondant aux questions listées ci-dessus (sous ‘SUJET’), un résumé de 450 mots et un court CV.
Un courriel sera envoyé pour confirmer la réception de la candidature et la décision sera communiquée au plus tard le 15 octobre 2022.
Le prix sera remis lors de la conférence d’octobre 2022 à l’Université de Victoria.
